Panel house painting with facade paint. Painting the facade of the house: tips and tricks

The easiest way to update the exterior walls of the house and give them uniqueness is painting. To do this, you do not even need to hire a professional team, but you can do it yourself.

But here many have the question, the facade of the house with their own hands? To do this, it is enough to have the necessary equipment, suitable paint (according to the material from which the walls are made) and a small amount of knowledge. And now, first things first.

In order to qualitatively paint the facade, the following devices are needed:

 • brushes of different sizes or rollers;
 • trough for paint;
 • spray gun;
 • primer;
 • a film with which you need to protect places that are not exposed to staining;
 • stepladder or scaffolding;
 • protective clothing and glasses are desirable.

Brushes are suitable for painting small details or to make beads and a beautiful contour. Large-scale painting of the facade of the house with your own hands is faster and better done using a roller or spray gun.

Clothing and glasses will protect against the penetration of coloring solutions on the skin or mucous membranes. With a film you need to well cover those places where you do not need to paint. In the process, material may drip or drip from the tool.

We select the coloring material

When choosing a facade paint, you need to remember that low-quality material will not lie on the base well and after a while you will have to redo everything. Therefore, there are several criteria that such a finishing material for the facade must meet:

 1. Resistance to sunshine, high humidity.
 2. High vapor permeability, this will allow the walls to breathe and not accumulate moisture inside the house.
 3. Good elasticity, helps the layer to stretch if the substrate expands due to high temperature.

In addition to these criteria, you should also pay attention to what the walls of the house were built from. In order for the paint to hold well and for a long time, it must be suitable for this particular material.

The water-based material is well suited for brick walls or stucco walls. This is the most budget option. But it will not last long, after a couple of years you need to update the coverage. The oily version is good for laying down on a wooden and plastered surface. Such a surface can last up to 10 years.

If the question arises, what paint to paint the concrete facade? Here is a great option alkyd materials. They perfectly adhere to the surface and resist negative factors.

The best option is acrylic paints with synthetic resin components. You can paint any surface without fear. The applied layer will be elastic and will last up to 7 years.

How to calculate the amount of materials

If you are painting the facade with your own hands, then calculate how much paint you need to have on your own. The total area of the walls that you plan to paint should be calculated by subtracting the window and door openings. With this data we go to the store and select the desired composition.

We carefully study the jar or packaging and find numbers that show the consumption of paint per 1 m2. After that, we multiply the area of the walls by the amount indicated on the tank and we get the result. Do not forget that any paint should be applied in 2 or even 3 layers. This will make a denser and more durable coating. Therefore, the resulting figure must be multiplied by 2 or three.

To speed up the buying process, you can contact a consultant with your data.

Preparatory stage

Regardless of what material the carriers are made of, for a high-quality coating with a facade paint, the base must be well prepared.

 1. You need to remove the old layer, if there was one.
 2. It is mandatory to remove all dirt, grease stains, traces of mold or mildew.
 3. All holes and cracks are carefully sealed.
 4. Roughnesses are polished.
 5. The prepared surface is coated with a deep penetration primer.

Only after the primer is completely dry can you begin to apply facade paint to the walls of the house.

Brick facade

By applying several layers to the brick, you can easily hide minor defects. But you need to remember that the brick wall in its original form will last much longer than the painted one. As mentioned earlier, after a few years, the paint must be applied again.

Therefore, if there is an alternative option, then it is better to resort to them. But if this was not found, this is also a good option. It should be applied from the top of the wall using a wide brush. In order to reach the highest points, scaffolding should be built or a ladder should be used.

The width of the brush should match the width of the brick. A thinner brush should be used for masonry joints, they can be distinguished with more contrasting paint, thus preserving the pattern of the brick wall.

It is better to apply paint on a brick in two or three layers to make a strong barrier against penetration of moisture from the environment. Seams should be treated after the base layer has completely dried.

Plastered walls

Most often, in order to prepare the facades of houses.

This helps to insulate and level the walls, making the surface smooth. The paint will lay down on the plaster well if the following rules are followed:

 1. Do not start on wet surfaces. The applied and sanded layer of plaster should dry completely for 4-5 days.
 2. After this, you need to apply several layers of primer, which in turn must also dry. The packaging indicates the exact time of complete drying.
 3. Now you can apply the paint. For plastered surfaces using a roller. Having dipped the roller in the paint, and its excess is squeezed on the corrugated surface of the paint trough. You need to move it in different directions (horizontally, vertically, at an angle) so that the paint lays evenly, and there are no bald spots.

The coloring composition is applied in several layers, allowing each of them to dry thoroughly.

Wood facade

Owners of wooden buildings often wonder how to properly paint the facade of the house so that the paint lasts as long as possible? There are some nuances here, missing which the result will be completely different.

Painting of wooden walls should begin with grinding. To do this, use a special machine that removes the old layer of paint or varnish, as well as a small layer of wood, approximately 1 mm. This is necessary so that the painted walls have an updated look for much longer.

Old finishes may swell under the influence of substances that make up the new dye. Thus, the new coating will lose its presentable appearance. After polishing, the tree should be coated with a primer solution with antifungal components. When the primer is dry, you can start painting.

It all starts from the top of the wall. At the joints, it is better to use a beveled brush, it will handle the recesses well. A wide brush is suitable for the main surface. When the paint begins to be absorbed, do not apply it with an additional layer in separate areas.

It is better to wait until the first coat dries well and after that apply another one on the entire surface. Then the layer will be as uniform and attractive as possible.

Some nuances

Do not start decorating the facade with paint if the weather is rainy or windy. High humidity will not allow the paint to adhere well to the base, and the wind will stick small debris to the layer just applied.

Too hot weather is also not suitable. In this case, the paint will dry quickly, and minor defects may appear. Better to choose more stable weather conditions.

For faster and more even coverage, you can use a spray gun. Such a device to apply a uniform layer of paint over the entire surface. But it requires the use of only a certain type of paint.

One of the most accessible and convenient options for elevating the facade is to apply special facade paint to it. In this way, it will be possible not only to revive the gray walls, but also to radically change the appearance of the house for the better. Separately, it is worth noting that paints show themselves perfectly as materials resistant to aggressive atmospheric conditions.

It is important to understand that exterior work on painting the facade must be completed before the first frost. Firstly, in this way it will be possible to prevent freezing of the paint, and secondly, to keep the plaster in its original form. In addition, painting in comfortable conditions without precipitation is much more convenient and enjoyable. You should not choose especially sunny days for painting the walls of the house, since the paint in this case can dry unevenly. The best option is a cloudy day, after which there will be no frost or rain.

Paint the facade with your own hands: how to calculate the number of paint?

To calculate the right amount of paint to improve the facade with your own hands, the most important thing is to know the exact area of the painted surface. The rest of the information can be read on the packaging or in a can of paint - usually it indicates what area is designed for one liter. In addition, you should not forget that applying the paint to the facade will be required in two layers, so the figure obtained as a result of simple calculations will need to be doubled.

Experienced craftsmen strongly recommend buying paint with a margin of at least 10% more than the amount necessary for painting. It is possible that due to unforeseen circumstances, the number of paints needed for staining will increase, but they will not be able to order the same.

By the way, when ordering paint online, you can use special calculators to help you calculate the number of materials you need, if you enter data on the area of the walls and their surface in it.

We are preparing the facade for DIY painting

Remember that facade paint is not the material with which it will be possible to mask defects on the surface of the house. On the contrary, such a painting will make flaws even more noticeable. That is why before painting it is important to properly prepare the facade surface for applying the material.

You should start by determining the mechanical surface of the facade of the house with the implementation of work aimed at restoring it if necessary. In other words, everything will need to be done so that the surface before painting is clean, dry, without bumps and cracks. If necessary, then you will first need to plaster the walls, thereby achieving the formation of a perfectly smooth surface.

In addition, at the same stage, it will be important to achieve optimal adhesion of the base, for which use deep penetration mixtures. At the same time, in cases when surfaces with increased absorption ability are processed, for example, wood or silicate brick, priming will need to be done several times, waiting for the previous layer to dry before applying the next.

We paint the house with our own hands: technology and features

For painting facades, a painting apparatus may be required (especially indispensable when it comes to large surfaces), a roller, a paint trough, brushes of different sizes, masking tape.

The technique of painting the exterior walls with your own hands is similar to the technology of applying paint to the internal walls of the building. That is why it is built on basic painting operations. Consider the nuances of staining with a spray gun and a hand roller.

Electric spray gun. Once the surface of the walls is ready, you can proceed to painting. Using an electric spray gun is much more convenient than a roller, especially if you need to paint large areas in a short time. Applying paint in this way is easier, more interesting and more convenient. The coating goes to bed with an ideal thin layer without streaks and stains.

Please note that spray gun painting is only possible with a suitable level of paint viscosity, which is usually indicated on the packaging.

If you decided to paint the facade with ordinary rollers, then take care of several nozzles for different sections of the walls and a wide portable staircase or scaffolding.

Apply paint with a roller at different angles:

 • obliquely
 • vertically;
 • horizontally.

Do-it-yourself paint the facade using the following technology:

 1. Paint is placed in the tray.
 2. The roller is wetted in the paint, after which it is rolled over its corrugated surface to remove excess.
 3. The strips are applied not in the joint, but with the onset of each other by several centimeters to obtain a uniform color coating.

As a rule, almost all facade paints are applied in two thin layers except lime, which will need to be painted in three layers. Each new layer is applied after the previous one dries. Metal elements on the surface can also be painted after they are first treated with oil paint.

Follow the simple recommendations below, the process of painting the facade of a private house will not cause you any difficulties, while the result will certainly live up to expectations.

So, what you need to know in order to successfully paint a house yourself:

 1. Start painting walls from the corners of the house - areas that are in plain sight.
 1. Use in hard to reach areas for painting thin brushes of suitable sizes.
 1. Protect door and window openings from paint. This can easily be done with masking tape, a special fat mixture or newspapers soaked in water.
 1. Given that paint can drain from the rollers during painting, the base should be covered with a layer of material at the very least.
 1. Choose a suitable weather for painting with a favorable forecast for the next few days to avoid damage to the paint as a result of precipitation.
 1. Paint facade elements, window and doorways in a different color to create a unique design.

In conclusion, we note that painting the facade with your own hands is a fascinating activity that requires some patience and effort. If you possess these qualities, while looking for opportunities to realize creative potential, saving money on the services of painters, then feel free to get down to business.

MDF manufacturing technology came to our country from America thirty years after the start of industrial production of material overseas. For external work, plates are not used for several reasons.

 1. High cost. There are many varieties of lumber having higher performance at lower cost.
 2. Inadequate physical strength. In terms of resistance to dynamic and static loads, the slab does not meet the requirements of developers. Damaging it is easy, but replacing it is difficult.
 3. Susceptibility to precipitation and temperature climatic conditions. There are options for moisture resistant plates, but they are not suitable for cladding the external surfaces of walls.

MDF board is used for the manufacture of furniture and lining the internal surfaces of walls. It is about these cases that we will talk. Painting of MDF facades will be considered only for enclosed spaces. Let us dwell separately on the painting of MDF furniture facades.

There is no need to list specific brands, and it is impossible to do so. We will only talk about the varieties and brief characteristics of paints, taking into account the method of their manufacture. The specific type must be selected taking into account the operating conditions of the MDF board, design preferences and financial capabilities. The spread in price and quality is quite large, there is plenty to choose from.

Type of paintsBrief Performance
Water basedThe most popular for painting large surfaces, have satisfactory performance, are completely safe for residents. Can be white and colored, for interior and exterior use.
Acrylic siliconeCombine the benefits of acrylic and silicone paints, an environmentally friendly product. Inhibits the reproduction of microflora and mosses, have high rates of resistance to mechanical stress.
SiliconeThey repel water, are not afraid of moisture and exposure to high temperatures. Surfaces are easily cleaned from dust and dirt. Due to their high elasticity, they compensate for the thermal expansion of MDF boards without any problems.
Polyvinyl acetateSome of the cheapest are recommended for use in rooms with minimal risk of damage. During use, the recommendations of the manufacturers should be strictly followed, otherwise delaminations appear.
OilTraditional dyes, in addition to giving a beautiful appearance to surfaces, effectively protect them from moisture. To increase adhesion, primers are recommended.
AlkydThey have a perfectly smooth surface, are made on the basis of alkyd enamels. Plastic, resistant to abrasion. The disadvantage is that under the influence of direct sunlight they quickly fade.

Before you buy paint, calculate the surface area and purchase materials with a margin. Consumption is indicated by the manufacturer. If it is recommended to paint with a primer before painting the surface - do not simplify the work. Insufficient adhesion of the paint to the MDF board causes delamination. As a result, the need for costly and time-consuming repairs.

Types of varnishes for MDF

The technology of coating surfaces with varnish is much more complicated than working with paints, but the effect justifies all efforts. When choosing a specific varnish, you need to take into account not only its properties and price, but also the place of application and operating conditions. The following types of varnishes can be used to coat MDF boards.

Type of varnishComposition and brief characteristics
AlcoholMade from ethanol and artificial resins. The price refers to the low category, the drying time depending on the conditions and thickness of the layer is 20-30 minutes.
Alkyd-carbamideTwo-component compositions are characterized by increased strength. Consist of urea and alkyd resins, hardener must be added before use. Differ in the increased durability and excellent gloss.
EpoxyTwo-component, high impact resistance, may have prolonged contact with water. Used to cover tables made of MDF.
PolyesterResistant to aggressive chemical compounds, withstand high temperatures. Polyester resin multi-component varnishes.
NitrocelluloseThe composition contains resins, plasticizers and solvents. They have high water resistance, polished, average mechanical strength.
Acrylic UrethaneThey are diluted with water, safe for health, and have increased adhesion to surfaces. They can be in conditions of elevated temperatures and humidity for a long time.
PolyurethaneThey are produced in one, two and three components. Full hardening time up to two weeks, characterized by increased wear resistance, have a high adhesion coefficient with all lumber.
AcrylicOdorless, non-toxic, diluted with water. Permanent contact with food is allowed. The performance characteristics are average.

This information will help you when choosing a brand of varnish, consider the maximum number of individual factors. Keep in mind that the appearance and operating time of MDF facades largely depend on the quality of the composition.

Technology for painting furniture facades from MDF

Quite complex work, require care, skill and patience. They are done in several stages, each of which significantly affects the final quality. Painting facades is much faster and better done with a spray gun, if not, use high-quality brushes with a soft, durable pile.

The room should be at least + 20 ° C, if there are a lot of individual facade elements made of MDF, then think about the places for their drying: shelving, supports, etc. In most cases, after painting the boards, it is recommended that they be varnished, it protects surfaces from damage, hides small flaws, significantly improves the design look. Varnishing is a complex process, it requires special tools and equipment. We will explain how MDF boards are varnished below, but for now let us dwell on painting.

By what criteria we choose paint. For furniture facades, we can only add that the color of the paint should take into account the purpose of the furniture and the intensity of its operation.

Step 1. Surface preparation. For furniture facades, in addition to cleaning from dust and degreasing surfaces, it is imperative to sandpaper with sandpaper No. 150-180.

Manually working long and hard, and achieving the desired quality is almost impossible. We recommend using a professional electric surface grinding machine with reciprocating action or a circular grinding unit.

Edges are ground with special four-sided jaws. Work preferably in a respirator. During grinding do not stop the tool in one place, it must always be in motion. One trace should be covered by the next no less than a third of the width. It is not necessary to press the sanding pad strongly, if problem areas remain on the surface, it is better to go over the entire area once more, rather than making a recess in one place.

Practical advice. Any grinding is accompanied by a large amount of fine dust. Take all measures so that it does not fall into adjacent rooms.

Step 2 Thoroughly clean surfaces from dust. Simple brushes cannot do, a powerful vacuum cleaner or compressor is required. Check the condition of the parts, if there are sharp edges - remove them. The IMF does not have much strength, sharp corners will certainly crumble.

Step 3. Coat the surfaces with a primer. Experienced craftsmen recommend using two types of primer, each twice. It is possible to prime with one primer without interruption for drying, apply the first layer with horizontal movements of the spray gun, and the next immediately vertical. Adjust the amount of primer; there should be no puddles on the surface. The first primer is used to prevent further absorption of materials, and the second to improve the adhesion coefficient between them. The second is applied only after the first primer has completely dried. Primer consumption per square meter 80–100 grams.

Practical advice. Beginners are very difficult to determine the expense by eye. To get the skill, we recommend taking a small piece of MDF, weighing it on an accurate scale. Coat with primer and immediately re-weigh. Next, the area of the sample is calculated and the increase in weight is determined. Using elementary mathematical calculations, the primer consumption is determined. Few - add more. Now remember what the surface of the MDF covered with the optimal layer looks like, and then ground with the same amount.

We strongly recommend that you work only with a pneumatic spray gun; you can never achieve “factory" quality with a brush. A professional will always notice traces of villi. Moreover, the sun's rays from different angles fall on the furniture, and such lighting enhances all the shortcomings of the front coverings. Immediately primer the ends of the structures.

If you need to paint the back side of the plate, then proceed to work only after the front has dried. Drying time is indicated by the manufacturer, but you need to make an adjustment based on the actual microclimate in the room.

Step 4 Start sanding the ground, use special sponges. If they are not there - take washcloths for washing dishes, on the back they have glued adhesive tape. This is a special material used for fine grinding, not only smooths the coating, but also leaves micro-scratches on the surface, improving the adhesion of the next coating. Movements are arbitrary in various directions. Circular movements of the sponge are not recommended, only reciprocating.

Step 5 Blow or vacuum dust on the surface. It is very convenient to work with a spray gun for another reason - it can be used to shut off the paint supply and can be used to clean surfaces from dust as a compressor.

Step 6. Start applying the second type of primer. It is mainly white in color, improves the performance of the following coatings. It is also necessary to prime two times with the subsequent polishing. Blow dust off the MDF again. The algorithm of actions is no different from the above technology.

Step 7 The second coat of primer must be carefully sanded with fine-grained electrical appliances. Do not rush, large flaws will already become noticeable on the finished product. If there is no experience with such machines, then we strongly recommend practicing on unnecessary sections of MDF. You will learn how to press the sanding pad against the surface, how to move it quickly, how thick the MDF is removed in one pass, etc.

Step 8 Prepare the paint. The cooking technology is indicated by the manufacturer on the packaging.

Follow all recommendations. We have already mentioned that for working with a spray gun, the consistency must be more liquid. Immediately paint twice in the transverse directions. You should already have practical experience in determining the quality of the coating and the amount of paint. Paint consumption ranges from 60-180 g.

After the coating has dried, you can proceed to varnishing the surfaces. For furniture interiors this is a must. The varnish not only serves as an additional and reliable protection, but also significantly improves the appearance of MDF products.

Coating MDF boards with varnish

How this is done we will describe below. But for quality, four main conditions must be observed:

 • do not use cheap varnishes;
 • strictly adhere to technology;
 • have the necessary tools and equipment;
 • have the practice of performing complex paintwork.

You will gain experience in carrying out such work and the ability to use tools during the priming and painting of products, working with varnish will already be much easier. You can determine the amount of varnish on the surface by eye, and the spray gun will "automatically" move in the right directions and at the optimum speed.

Step 1. According to the instructions, prepare the varnish, consumption of approximately 100-150 g per square meter.

Varnishing start from the ends of the MDF, due to this technology it is possible to minimize the number of areas with uneven thickness. Lacquer, which gets a little on the front surface, does not pose a threat to the final quality.

After the first layer has dried, treat it with the smallest abrasive. Professionals recommend using abrasive fiber No. 1200 according to the international classification. It can be purchased at specialized stores.

Step 2 Remove dust from the surface. Inspect surfaces from various angles in a room with good lighting. Everything is fine - cover the surface with a second coat of varnish. By the way, it is recommended to coat some facades with varnish up to 0.5 mm thick, and for this you will have to increase the number of layers to five or more. The industrial enterprises have a different technology, there the varnish is immediately poured onto the surface of the required thickness, then the sheets on the conveyor are fed into the drying chambers. At home, this technology does not apply.

Step 3. The quality is satisfactory - proceed to fine grinding and polishing the finish layer. For fine grinding, use Velvet Nos. 1500, 2000 and 3000. Carefully, but carefully treat the surface with each number, periodically remove dust.

Practical advice. Sanding quality will improve significantly if the surfaces are slightly moistened with water. The varnish will not overheat, during operation, microcracks do not form on the surface from exposure to abrasive materials. Microcracks refract light rays, the surface becomes dull.

Each number walk across the entire surface at least three to four times. The pressing force is slightly less than when grinding the primer. Grinding takes a lot of time. If you are tired, it’s better to postpone the work the next day, and not stop completely.

Step 4 Polishing. For polishing, you need a special polishing paste and a perfectly smooth hard circle. There is a lot of pasta, choose not a problem. Study the recommendations and compare them with your individual conditions. Do not rush, constantly monitor the condition of the surfaces in the light.

If you have a sufficiently large amount of work, then we advise you to purchase special electric polishing machines. They not only speed up and facilitate the work, but also significantly improve the quality. Apply the polishing paste to the disc with a layer of about 1–2 mm, do not level it, during operation the excess paste will be independently removed from under the disc and will remain on the surface of the MDF. Further, as necessary, the rotating disk itself captures the right amount of material.

As the last step, you can use surface polishing with compositions that provide a mirror finish.

Painting facades of outbuildings from MDF

We mentioned that this material is not recommended for exterior cladding. But there are cases of its use for temporary decoration of the facade walls of small old country outbuildings. So do those owners whose financial condition does not allow them to purchase new materials; they use various second-hand building materials, including MDF panels, for cladding the facades of outbuildings.

In order to increase the service life of structures, we recommend painting the external surfaces. Do not miss the primer, at a price the material is available to all developers, it takes a little time to carry out the work, and the effect is obvious. The type of primer is chosen according to the type of paint. On the packaging, the manufacturer indicates which primer to use. The primer is done twice, the brush or roller should move in perpendicular directions. If for some reason this cannot be achieved, then coat each coat at least at an angle. In addition to increasing adhesion, the primer reduces the consumption of expensive paints and prevents the appearance of stains emerging from the base. You can paint with brushes of various sizes and rollers. But you can’t do with rollers alone, the joints must be carefully painted with brushes.

Step 1. Measure the area of the painted surface. Buy paint taking into account the area and expense, do not buy paint “back to back”, always have a supply of material. It will be calmer for you to work, and surpluses will always come in handy for the production of cosmetic repairs.

Step 2 Thoroughly clean the surface of the MDF from dust, it is advisable to use a vacuum cleaner. Dust particles can be noticeable on the surface of the paint, then remove them unrealistic. Have to completely repaint the stove.

Step 3 Prepare the paint and tools. If the material has been stored in a warehouse for a long time, then the composition should be thoroughly mixed before use. When painting the surface with a spray gun, the paint will have to be slightly diluted with a solvent. Which one to choose is written on the package. To guarantee, a small amount of paint can be poured into the solvent first. If the paint is curled, the solvent is unsuitable.

Step 4 Wet the roller or brush in the paint and start painting the surfaces.

You can apply paint with a brush or rollers

Practical advice. Take the brush from top to bottom, so you will see streaks of excess paint and eliminate them in a timely manner. If you paint on the contrary, you will have to constantly return to the previously painted area to eliminate drips. You may not notice them or forget to return - there will be a problem. If the drips dry, then removal will take a long time. In some cases, they will have to be cut off with a blade and the surface of the coating should be adjusted.

Step 5. Brush the adjoining areas, make sure that no traces of villi remain. In the implementation, you can find low-quality paint brushes, their pile keeps weak. To prevent it from remaining on the surface, rub the brush on any clean surface with great effort before use. Insufficiently fixed hairs will come out and will not create problems during staining.

Step 6. Let the first layer dry, the time depends on the characteristics of the paint. Professional painters do not recommend drying with open windows - dust enters the room and adheres to the surface of the paint.

Step 7 If the quality of one layer is unsatisfactory - apply the second. The technology is the same.

While painting surfaces, you can draw various patterns and ornaments. To do this, first draw the contour lines with a pencil. Each color must be pre-pasted with masking tape.

How to remove an old paintwork

To remove the paintwork is not so easy, a lot depends on its composition and your capabilities. Consider three methods for cleaning MDF surfaces.

 1. Mechanical. Removal of coatings is carried out with a metal brush or spatula. The work is very difficult and not always effective. In this way, it is possible to remove only very old peeled coatings, and even not from the entire surface. It is much easier to use various grinding electric machines with large abrasive material. We warn that there will be a lot of dust, take measures so that it does not fall into adjacent rooms. To protect the respiratory system, use respirators or masks. Sandpaper will quickly clog, you will have to change it often.

 2. Thermal. The paint layer is heated with a building hairdryer (an ordinary one does not fit!), The coating softens and can be removed with a spatula much easier. The disadvantage is that not everyone has a building hair dryer, and buying it for a small amount of work is economically unprofitable.

 3. Chemical. Specialty stores sell a variety of solvents. The surfaces are wetted by them and left for several hours. Practical advice. To enhance the effect of exposure to a chemical preparation, it is recommended that after soaking, cover the treated area with plastic wrap and seal the edges with tape. Next, soft coatings are removed with a spatula. You need to work only on the street, some trains are very aggressive. Respiratory protection required. If necessary, the procedure is repeated several times.

Regardless of the method of removing old coatings, before the new painting, the surface of the MDF must be sanded, there will always be traces from the brush or putty knife. In addition, not all areas of the coating can be removed manually.

Prices for different types of paint removers

Paint remover

To paint the sheathing of MDF walls with rollers, buy them with a fine pile. Such rollers leave fewer marks, the paint lays more evenly and manages to level out during drying.

The longer the paint dries, the more marriage it can hide on its own. Quick-drying materials do not give such an advantage, the surface dries quickly and does not level well.

Absolutely all MDF boards release chemical compounds into the air. The notorious "environmental friendliness" depends only on their quantity. In various countries, health authorities establish their allowable standards. What is considered harmful to some is accepted as environmentally friendly by others and is permitted for use. It is possible to minimize the amount of emitted harmful compounds by deep impregnation. This is another reason not to refuse this operation during the painting of MDF.

If problem areas were found on the surface after the end of work, then you can hide them with false decorative elements. Now on sale there is a large selection of drawings on self-adhesive plastic film. With them you will not only hide your marriage, but give the surfaces a beautiful and exclusive look.

Pile does not rise on MDF boards, only natural wood has this drawback. When choosing paints and varnishes, pay attention to this feature. By the way, coatings that do not raise the pile during drying are much more expensive than ordinary ones; do not overpay for unnecessary properties.

Video - Painting technology for wooden houses

Putting paint on the facade is the easiest, fastest and most affordable way to refine it. This is important because the facade is the face of the house and, in fact, indicates the welfare of the owners. If it seems to you that you cannot do this work yourself, then you are mistaken. In fact, painting is quite possible.

The paint will not only improve the external characteristics of the house, but also protect it from the aggressive effects of the external environment.

Outdoor work must be completed before the first frosts begin. This is important because this way you can preserve the plaster and prevent the paint from freezing. True, you can not paint the walls in the days of great solar activity, because the paint will dry unevenly. A cool cloudy day without precipitation is the best time to do such work.

Making a paint calculation

So that you can calculate the amount of paint that you will need to update the external walls of the house, you first have to determine the exact surface area. As for the paint itself, then about how much area you can paint 1 liter of the composition, you can find out from the packaging or cans. When calculating the amount of paint you should consider the fact that you have to cover the surface twice. And this means that the resulting figure should be multiplied by 2.

Experts with sufficient experience in painting facades recommend buying paint with a 10% margin. The fact is that the consumption of the coloring composition may increase for some reason, for example, due to the high absorbent properties of the surface.

Preliminary preparation of the facade for painting

Paint does not mask surface defects. If you notice cracks or chips on the external walls of the house, then you will need to cover them with a specially prepared solution, for example, based on cement.

If you do not pre-cover the cracks and chips, then after painting those will become even more noticeable, because of which the finished facade will not be presentable. The work will have to be redone, spending a lot of effort, money and time.

Before painting, it is important to clean the surface of dust and dirt, then cover up all the bumps, cracks and chips, and then leave the walls until they dry completely. If necessary, plaster the walls in order to achieve their maximum alignment.

For optimum surface adhesion, a primer or deep penetration mixture should be used. If the facade of your house is made of silicate brick or wood, then the surface will have to be primed several times. This is due to the fact that these materials strongly absorb the primer solution. Apply the next coat after the previous one has completely dried.

Features of the facade painting

So, how to paint? If the area is very large, then to speed up the painting process, you can use a spray gun, paint trough, hand roller, masking tape and brushes. It is very convenient to paint the facade of the house with an electric spray gun. In this case, the paint lies in a thin layer without streaks and sagging.

If during the process of painting the facade you decide to use an electric spray gun or roller, then carefully choose the paint. After all, the device can only be filled with paint having a suitable viscosity level. These data are usually on the can or on the packaging indicated by the manufacturer.

If at your disposal there is no apparatus for painting the facade, then you can perform this work with an ordinary manual roller. Make sure you have different nozzles in advance. This will allow you to easily paint different sections of the walls. Also in your construction assortment should be a portable wide staircase and scaffolding.

Apply the paint composition with a roller at the following angles: horizontally, vertically and obliquely. Thus, the paint will lie on the walls evenly.

After you dampen the roller in the paint, you will have to remove its excess from it. To do this, roll the roller over the corrugated surface of the tray.

To get an even coating, apply an overlap of 2-3 cm. For the most part, facade paints must be applied in 2 layers. The exception is only lime paint, which is always applied in 3 layers. As with the primer, each coat should be applied after the previous one has completely dried.

 • The painting of the walls should begin with the most visible areas, namely the corners.
 • To paint over hard-to-reach areas of the wall with quality, use a brush of the appropriate size.
 • If you paint the walls with a roller, then the base must be covered with a protective film. This is because paint can drip from the tool.
 • If you want to create a unique design, then windows and doors should be painted in a contrasting color to the walls.
 • Before painting the walls, protect the windows and doors from contact with the paint composition. This will help you masking tape and film.
