How to cut ceiling skirtings. How to cut the ceiling baseboard and floor and properly dock

  Is a corner design. Joining the trims in such places must be done very carefully, otherwise the appearance of the decor will be hopelessly ruined. Of course, pretty aesthetic special corner elements can be used.

However, planks that are naturally docked usually look more harmonious. Yes, and spend money on additional details in this case do not have to. Therefore, further in the article we will consider how to cut the corner of the ceiling plinth correctly and how to process the seam.

Trimming the skirting board

Ceiling skirting boards are made of a wide variety of materials - polystyrene foam, plastic, wood. To trim them, the tools available in each house can be used. Styrofoam strips are cut with scissors or a knife. A wooden skirting board is cut with a hacksaw on a tree. How to cut a plastic baseboard is also not a question. You can saw it with a regular hacksaw for metal.

Pruning of a wooden skirting board is done with a conventional hacksaw.

What is a miter box?

For accurate and most accurate cutting of ceiling skirtings, a special tool is usually used - a miter box. It is a tray, shot down from three boards. In its walls there are slots located at a certain angle to the axis (45, 60 and 90g, etc.). They are designed to guide the hacksaw blade when trimming. You can buy a miter box for the ceiling plinth in a hardware store.

Trimming slats at an angle of 45g do in the miter box

Trimming the skirting board in the miter box

Trimming in the miter box is performed as follows:

  1. The right strip is laid in the tray from left to right with the wrong side to the bottom (the part that will subsequently adjoin the ceiling). Part of the wall adjoining should be leaned against the side board of the tray (closest to you);
  2. The bar is firmly pressed against the tool and cut through the slot.

How to make a corner of a ceiling plinth

Important:   When trimming, it should be remembered that when designing the internal corner, the edge of the skirting board adjacent to the wall should be longer than the one adjacent to the ceiling. When finishing the exterior - on the contrary.
  1. A second ceiling strip is inserted into the tray from right to left and trimmed;
  2. Ready-made slats are attached to the corner and adjust the junction with a knife;

Planks are set to the corner, and adjustment is performed

  1. How to join the corners of the ceiling plinth? You can do this from a stepladder right on the wall. But this is not too convenient, therefore, experts advise polyurethane and foam elements to combine and glue with each other on the floor with special glue for joints.

What to do if there is no miter box?

Thus, we have figured out how to sew a ceiling plinth (the video above will probably help someone figure this out better) using a miter box. But what if this tool is not at hand? In fact, adjusting the trims is even possible without using it. There are two main ways to solve this problem: marking right on the wall and making simulations of the miter box.

In the first case, the procedure is as follows:

  1. The left lane is firmly pressed against the ceiling;
  2. With a pencil, line 1 is drawn on the ceiling along its upper edge;

How to cut a ceiling skirting board without a miter box. Draw the first line

  1. Next, the right ceiling element is attached to the ceiling and line 2 is drawn;
  2. In the place of suppression of the edge of the right bar with line 1, a mark is put;

A second line is drawn and a mark is set on the baseboard

  1. Next, the left element is again attached to the ceiling;
  2. At the intersection of its upper edge with line 2, a mark is also placed;
  3. Now on each strip you need to connect the marks with the end of the bottom edge of the baseboard;

Then, along the resulting line, the skirting is actually cut at an angle.

Without using a tray, the mounted strips in the corner can be quite neat

In order to cut an even angle, you can also use the simulation of the miter box:

  1. On a smooth plywood sheet, draw two strictly parallel lines;
  2. We put a point on one of them and with the help of a protractor we connect it to the second line at an angle of exactly 45g (we draw to the left);
  3. At a distance of 10 centimeters to the left of the first point, put the second;
  4. We connect it with the second line at an angle of 45g (we draw to the right).

How to cut a corner of a ceiling plinth using imitation miter box

An impromptu miter box is ready. Now it remains to attach the right ceiling element (the wrong side) to the right with the lower edge to the line closest to you and cut it off. The same with the left bar (only apply it on the left).

Tip:   You can cut polystyrene boards with a knife. However, sharpen it properly. Otherwise, the material at the ends simply crumbles.

How to connect the trims if the angle is uneven

In urban apartments, and especially in old ones, the walls are rarely even. Therefore, the angles between them are often not straight at all. How to gash the ceiling skirting in this case?

In fact, it is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance. You just need to measure the angle. To do this, you can use the special tool malka or just make a template out of paper and use the protractor.

An uneven angle can be measured using a small goniometer

The resulting angle is divided into two, we draw the corresponding "miter box" on plywood and cut the strip. Next, you just need to connect them to the glue.

How to finish the corners

How to cut the corner of the ceiling baseboard, we have figured out. Now let's see how to finish the joints. How to cover the joint in the corner? In the event that there is a small gap left, the seal can be done by ordinary putty to the color of the plinth. Joints can also be passed with silicone sealant.

The gap between the strips in the inner corner can be putty putty

Important:   Only internal corner can be repaired with putty or sealant. The outdoor should be customized as carefully as possible. It will simply be impossible to remove even a small gap in the future unnoticed here. Especially when the baseboard is wide.

Corner elements for ceiling skirting

Trimming of ceiling strips when using corner elements (special connectors) is also usually performed in the miter box. How to cut the trims in this case? Everything is very simple - cutting is done at right angles. If there is no tray, you can use a conventional protractor or square. Corner elements (photo):

When using corner elements, strip trimming is done at right angles.

How to trim floor skirting

Skirting boards can be made of, or MDF. Just as in the case of a ceiling plinth, they need to be cut depending on the material with a regular hacksaw (wooden) or a hacksaw for metal (plastic).

Now you know how to cut a ceiling plinth. Next, we will see how the fitting and trimming of the floor is performed. How to use the miter box in this case? When trimming the floor plinth, the procedure is approximately the same as when painting the ceiling. For the inner corner:

  1. We take the first strip and put it in the tray from right to left so that it lies in it the same way as on the floor. We lean it against the far wall of the instrument as against a wall;

The strip is inserted into the tray and pressed firmly

  1. We trim the unnecessary piece from the left end at an angle through hole 1 (figure below);
  2. We insert the second strip from left to right in exactly the same position and cut from the right end through hole 2.

How to trim the baseboard in the corner, if it is external:

  1. Insert the first strip into the tray in the same way as for the inner corner (from right to left);
  2. We trim it from the left end through hole 2;
  3. Insert the second bar from left to right and trim its right end through slot 1.

How to cut ceiling skirting for exterior and interior corners

Tip: The butt at an angle of 45g should be done not only in order to cut the elements in the corners, but also to make joints on the wall itself. In this case, the connections will not be so noticeable.

Thus, we have examined in the most detailed way how to cut a skirting board in corners. The procedure is not as complicated as it might seem at first glance. Having started pruning in the miter box or using its imitation, you will see for yourself.

Any repair work always ends with a finish. In rare cases, the interior of the room dispenses with a ceiling plinth, its presence helps to hide the joints of the finishing materials used for wall and ceiling surfaces, in addition, do not forget about the decorative function that this element carries. Making the perimeter of the room, just fixing it in a straight line, is easy. It is much more difficult to trim it correctly in the corners, without spoiling the material and spending a minimum of time and money.

Features

The ceiling plinth, like any other interior element, has its own characteristics, so before you buy it in a hardware store, you need to understand the materials from which this element is made and what difficulties you will encounter during the work.

Previously, the ceiling plinth had a different name - a fillet. Translated from German means “notch” or “groove”. The material for the manufacture of this decorative element was gypsum, poured into the prepared form. The frozen gypsum element was fixed on the ceiling surface with a solution. Today, gypsum ceiling plinth is very rare, its cost is high, and it is much more difficult to install it compared to modern counterparts.

Today they produce ceiling elements from several types of materials in numerous configurations. They cost less than gypsum, but they look no worse. The cheapest copies are made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). This material with a slight mechanical impact is subject to deformation, the formation of irremovable dents or creases leads to a complete replacement of the element. In addition, all made PVC skirting boards are electrostatic, dust accumulates on them very quickly.

Ceiling skirting boards made of polyurethane and polystyrene are among the most popular products. They gained their popularity due to an affordable price, a wide range of profile drawings, a variety of sizes (their width varies between 5–250 mm), as well as resistance to moisture. Polyurethane ceiling elements can be found in the design of many rooms, they look great in any interior. But, there are drawbacks, the material does not tolerate temperature extremes, is prone to cracking, especially if installed above a stove.

The classic version of the ceiling plinth is a wood product. Wooden elements, unlike the listed types, are not installed on glue, self-tapping screws are used to fix them. Wooden houses or rooms, whose style dictates the use of precisely wooden elements, are decorated with skirting boards from this material.

Necessary tools

Installing a ceiling skirting involves cutting the extra length and fitting it in the corners. In order to trim, tools are needed. The choice of a particular type of tool depends on the material from which the baseboard is made.

When working with wood and plastic, an electric miter saw is used. Circumcision with the use of this tool occurs accurately, quickly and without much effort, you just need to set the necessary parameters and correctly lay the baseboard. It’s not difficult to choose an appropriate tool, since manufacturers produce this tool in a wide price range.

But, with wood and plastic, you can cope with another well-known carpentry tool - a miter box paired with a hacksaw. This tool has the shape of a tray, made of either wood, or plastic, or metal. In two parallel sidewalls of the miter box there are slots for the saw, for convenient cutting of the baseboard at the right angle. In a simple modification of the tool, the ceiling element can be cut at an angle of 45 or 90 degrees, and in a more complex version, the skirting can be cut at an angle of 60 degrees.

The miter box and the hacksaw are cheaper than the miter saw, but they also have their drawback - this is the risk of damage to the material, especially if the quality of the purchased material leaves much to be desired. In addition, the miter box is more suitable for rooms with even walls and corners.

For a more even cut without the risk of damage to the material and without delamination of the structure, a jigsaw is suitable. Managing this tool is easy, with it you can set any direction and make the most accurate cuts. For lighter materials and with a weaker structure, you can use an ordinary construction knife, the main thing is to pick a copy with a sharp blade.

How to cut?

Two main issues are facing the installation of ceiling skirting. How to cut a skirting board without gaps and with perfect matching in the corners, and what tools should be used to get a beautifully located ceiling element? In order to understand these issues, it is necessary to study all the methods and tools used in cutting skirting. Almost all methods and tools can be used to fit the skirting board in both internal and external corners.

Outer corner

For the outer corner, the skirting board is cut at an angle of 45 degrees. First you need to check the evenness of the outer corner. If the surface of the walls are in contact with each other exactly at an angle of 90 degrees, then you can use the miter box to cut the plinth. In order to correctly trim the strips of the outer corner, it is necessary to correctly position both parts of the baseboard.

First you need to outline the length of both halves, and only after that cut them at an angle of 45 degrees. In order not to change the position of the saw and not to get confused with the location of the halves of the baseboard, you must correctly position them in the miter box. The left half is laid face up, with the part adjacent to the ceiling should be closer to the center, and the second side adjacent to the wall should be pressed to the sidewall with slots. With the right half, everything is different: it must be laid in the miter face down, and the location of the adjacent parts to the ceiling and wall will be similar here.

The bar placed in the miter box for an even cut must be pressed to the sidewall, placing it as close to the slot as possible. Holding the workpiece with your left hand, you need to carefully make a cut and set it aside. The second half of the baseboard should be cut in the same way, not forgetting to turn it face down.

If there is no miter box, you can make his project on paper or cardboard. First, draw a rectangle inside which along the longer sides we draw two more parallel lines. On each side inside the lines with the help of a protractor we postpone the desired angle in different directions. Preparation and subsequent trimming of workpieces occurs in the same way as using the tool itself.

This method is good in that you can postpone the angle not strictly 45 or 90 degrees, but a little more or less, because not always the wall surfaces in the corners are directed to each other at an angle of 90 degrees, there are errors. Therefore, for a more accurate cut on the miter shown on paper, you can draw any angle using a protractor. The angle of the angle is first checked with a protractor, the resulting value is divided by 2. The resulting number will be the exact degree for the correct undercut.

If desired, the miter box can be built with your own hands. The easiest way is to make a tool out of wood, you just need to take three planks and put them together in the shape of the letter P. Then make marks on the side parts at different degrees, use a hacksaw to make cuts. You can make a miter box from two planks, having previously made slits in them, or use a drawing with the right angles on paper to accurately determine the inclination.

You can even use a table as a handy tool. The main thing is that he has angles for orientation.

In order to correctly cut the outer corners, you can do without any auxiliary tools and drawings on paper, you only need to design the future corner in place.

The baseboard of the outer corner always protrudes into the room by an amount equal to its width, therefore, to determine the exact cut, it is necessary to make marks on the right and left half of the baseboard. You need to postpone the width from the side adjacent to the wall. Then, from the obtained point, draw a line to the upper corner of the half. The resulting triangle needs to be cut, and the halves docked in place for a preview.

Interior

To join the halves of the plinth in the inner corner, you can use the same methods and tools. The arrangement of the halves in the miter box when cutting for the inner corner is identical to the arrangement of the parts used to join the outer corner. But, you can not turn the right half of the baseboard for an incision, but just change the incline of the incision (use another slot). In any case, on the left side of the baseboard, the line will be inclined to the left of the corner point located on the side adjacent to the wall, and on the right side of the baseboard, the line will be inclined to the right of the similarly located point.

With perfectly flat surfaces of the corner, instead of the miter box, you can use a regular square. To do this, press the half of the baseboard against the inner corner of the ruler and cut off the unwanted part at an angle of 45 degrees. It is not difficult to do this, since the side of the ruler and part of the baseboard form a total of 90 degrees, the notch line divides this angle in half, which means that part of the baseboard will be cut at an angle of 45 degrees.

For wooden and plastic skirting boards, an incision in place will not work, you can only mark the surface of the skirting board, and cut it yourself at the mark later, using a hacksaw or saw.

In order to properly trim, and then join the baseboard halves for the inner corner, you need to make a measurement in place with a simple pencil. The right blank must be attached to the corner from the appropriate side until it stops. Draw a line on the ceiling surface along the half and put the workpiece to the side. We do the same with the other half.

At the intersection of the two lines, a point was formed with which you need to make marks on each half of the baseboard. To put a point, you need to attach a half to the place of joining. From the obtained point, you need to draw a line to the lower corner of the half, as a result you get a small triangle, which you need to cut.

The halves trimmed by this method need to be adjusted to each other, with inaccurately trimmed edges, the slices can be aligned with a knife if the material of manufacture is foam.

To eliminate small flaws in the cut of wooden or polyurethane baseboards, you will have to use a file. Only after complete coincidence of the incisions can we start fixing the halves.

Sometimes the perfect fit fails, but there is always a solution. To eliminate cracks, you can use putty. The choice of putty depends on the material of the plinth. In order to eliminate inaccuracies in trimming skirting boards, you need to practice using small pieces of the skirting board or cut strips slightly longer than the intended size. Such a margin will make it possible to make a new cut if it was made with the wrong slope or the material is deformed at the cut point.

When someone first takes up the preparation of corners, most often he has to spoil more than one meter of material. Alas, even an acquired miter box does not always help in this when the walls in the room are connected at an arbitrary, and not at right angles.

Then you have to rely on your own eye or make a special template. Today you will learn how to make corners of a ceiling molding with and without a tool.

Tip: instead of a saw attached to the miter, it is better to use a conventional hacksaw for metal. Its cutting is more accurate and even, which is very important in this process.

Before starting work

Choosing the right baguette width is the key to a beautiful interior. Not the least role in the sawing process is also played by the method by which you do it. We want to give you a couple of recommendations that will help you achieve your plan.

So, how to choose the width of the material and how to cut the ceiling plinth in the corners:

  • the prepared wall surface is not a standard for evenness, use strips of smaller width, as they are more flexible and will be able to cover the maximum number of defects. Accordingly, on the contrary, the more ideal the surface, the greater the width of the molding can be, however, keep in mind - mount a narrow baguette in rooms with low ceilings so as not to reduce them visually;
  • always apply the left part of the corner to the miter when cutting it to the left, the right - to the right. In addition, it should be the side of the tool closest to you, the far side for floor moldings. Please do not confuse.

Below we will deal with the task in more detail, where you will learn how to cut the corners of the ceiling plinth correctly and with the highest quality.

External

There is one nuance of this process that you should never forget. We always look at the fillet ceiling from below, so when the bar is placed in the miter box (to the wall closest to you), it must be turned over.

The upper part of the molding will then be at your bottom, and the lower, respectively, at the top. Thus, there will be no gaps between the planes of the parts of the corner when they are connected.

The process instruction will be as follows:

  1. Take measuring tools, such as a tape measure, and a pencil. Begin marking from the inside corner so you don’t miss the outside. It may happen that the length of the baguette is not enough and you have to make many joints;
  2. Attach the molding to the ceiling surface and mark the dimensions;
  3. Prepare a miter box and a hacksaw for metal. Press the baguette to the side of the instrument closest to you;
  4. Hold the fillet with your hand and select the position of the hacksaw at which the appropriate connection angle will be set. These can be standard parameters - 45, 90, or 135˚, or arbitrary, for which it is necessary to expand the miter box by the selected degree;
  5. Cut the workpiece with a hacksaw;
  6. Install the opposite bar to the near wall of the tool and fix it by hand;
  7. Set the selected degree on the miter and cut the workpiece with a hacksaw for metal;
  8. Dock the resulting plinth planks.

Tip: if the walls are connected to each other at a right angle, only in this case the miter box will help you in your work, otherwise you will have to do it yourself.

Interior

There is a professional miter box, which has a rotary platform and can be moved apart to obtain arbitrary angles, as well as for home use, where special opportunities are limited. Usually in repairs it is enough to use the second option.

So, the basic principle is that the ceiling strips are cut off at the wall of the tool closest to you, we hope you have not forgotten.

The process in this case looks like this:

  1. Measure the required length of the baguette, applying it to the ceiling surface;
  2. Put the molding strip in the miter box, while its position should fully correspond to the location of the baguette on the ceiling;
  3. Press the bar against the near wall of the tool;
  4. Choose the appropriate degree of cut, most often it is 45. Make sure that the hacksaw handle is as close as possible to the hand holding the bar to make the cut as accurately as possible;
  5. Cut the workpiece, but do not apply excessive force to the hacksaw;
  6. Prepare and trim the opposite framing, not forgetting that it should be pressed against the near wall of the miter box;
  7. Choose the appropriate cutting angle for it, leaving a minimum distance between the hacksaw handle and the hand holding the molding;
  8. Cut the edge of the bar.

It remains to verify the correctness of the joining of the segments, and if everything meets the expectations, set them in place.

Tip: start cutting from the front of the molding, then you can orient it as accurately as possible on the spot. After cutting the corners of a wooden baguette, process and adjust the file.

How to make corners of a ceiling baguette without a miter box

For the first time deciding to make a framing on the ceiling, a beginner does not see this as any problem, but in vain. We recommend that you immediately consider the cost of a certain amount of material that you just have to throw away.

Alas, but at what angle to cut the ceiling plinth depends only on the connection of the walls to each other. Not every one corresponds to a straight line, for which it is enough to simply cut the strips under 45˚. Often there are parameters corresponding to 85 or 95 degrees, but this is a problem for beginner finishers.

If you are the owner of an apartment built in the last century, this was generally considered the norm. The fact is that when you simply cut the strips under 45˚ and install on the ceiling, there will be gaps between them, which will then have to be sealed with sealant or putty. We will try to help you solve this problem with minimal cost, since the price of not every molding is cheap.

So, how to correctly cut the corners of the ceiling plinth for the inner corner:

Training Prepare the tool you need in your work.

If the baseboard is made of:

  • foam or polyurethane, it is enough to have a sharp knife or hacksaw for metal;
Markup
  1. Take the molding and attach it to the selected corner. Orient it in the same way as it will be installed in the end. With a pencil, draw a line along the bar and remove it;
  2. Perform the same procedure with the second fillet as with the previous one. In this case, it should adjoin the junction;
  3. As a result, you get a marked plot;
  4. Take the baguette, lean it against the markings. Transfer to it the intersection point of two lines drawn by you earlier;
  5. Draw a line from it to the opposite edge of the fillet, which will be the cut line. With the second baguette, do the same.
Cut Use a sharp knife or hacksaw to cut the edge of the molding.
Check Take two resulting baguettes and attach them to the corner. There should be no gap between them; otherwise, correct the surfaces with a knife.

Remember when creating:

  • inner corner - the lower part protrudes above the upper;
  • outer - upper above the bottom.

Output

If it seemed to you that the work of creating a beautiful interior using a ceiling baguette is quite complicated, this is only at first glance. Do everything according to our instructions and you will quickly understand the essence of the process. The main thing is to be careful and correctly calculate the amount of material for work.

The video in this article will provide an opportunity to expand your knowledge on this topic. If you have any questions during the reading of the publication and after it, please ask them in the comments, we will be happy to answer them.

To add sophistication to the room with the help of a decorative ceiling plinth. In addition, this product perfectly conceals cracks in the corners and errors in connecting the ceiling to the walls. But only subject to flawless installation. And a convenient carpentry device called a miter box, which is used to evenly cut the baguette at the required angle, will help in this.

   The problem of cutting off the cornice is not at all in the complexity of the procedure. The fact is that rarely in our homes are ideal angles of 90 °. Basically, they are curved, and so that later you do not have to close up the formed cracks with a putty mixture or silicone, you should carefully cut the baguette manually. When cutting, consider the material from which it is made. To trim a plastic baseboard, you will need a hacksaw for metal. A skirting board made of wood is processed with a saw on a wood with frequent teeth. If you have a foam or polyurethane baguette, then take care of the presence of a drywall or office knife. In addition, to trim the ceiling plinth, you will need a carpentry fixture called a miter box. The tool is structurally a tray made of metal or wood. You can even find plastic products on sale. It has grooves for guiding the hacksaw at the desired angle to the axis of the tray. Such a tool allows you to cut the cornice at different angles, namely 45, 60, 90 °. Although an angle of 60 degrees is rarely cut. The angles in the room are internal and external, and the procedure for trimming them is different.

   We cut off the internal corners as follows:
  1. Attach the baseboard to the inner corner so that you can define the cut line. Remember that the lower edge for fastening to the wall needs to be made longer.
  2. Place the baguette in the fixture. The edge with which you will fix the baseboard to the ceiling should be located below. The position of the baseboard must be similar to its subsequent placement during installation.
  3. Make sure the baguette fits snugly against the opposite wall of the instrument.
  4. Its end should be set at an angle that you require, for example, 45 degrees.
  5. Put a hacksaw in a special hole and cut off the unwanted part of the cornice. Act carefully, smoothly, without sudden movements. Do not apply excessive pressure, otherwise the edge of the cut may be damaged.
  6. When processing an adjacent part, it must be cut off in mirror image.
  7. After cutting, try on 2 skirting boards, they should perfectly fit together.
  8. If there are protrusions at the joints, then a fit is required. For a wooden eaves use a file, for baguettes from soft material - a knife.

   Outside corners are cut in the other direction. Please note that the edge with which the baseboard is attached to the ceiling surface must be longer. Based on this, the baguette for the right side should be cut from right to left. For the left side, cut from left to right. If a gap forms during trimming of the inner skirting board, then it will turn out to be easily repaired. In the case of an outer corner, such a defect cannot be fixed, so proceed very carefully. However, there are situations when the miter box is not at hand. In this case, it is not always advisable to buy a tool, especially if the installation of a baguette is required in only one room. But a carpentry fixture for cutting a ceiling skirting can be done with your own hands:
  • First you need to decide what dimensions the tool will have. It should be borne in mind that the height and width of the miter box depend on the size of the baguette being cut, they cannot be smaller than the cornice. Recommended dimensions are: length - at least 50 cm, width - 20 cm, height - 20 cm.
  • To make a miter box, you will need a base, which is used as a wide rectangular board. Its dimensions are similar to those described above, that is, 50 by 20 cm. The thickness is 2.5 cm.
  • Guide boards are needed to guide the hacksaw blade when cutting the baguette. They should be the same length as the base. Thickness does not play a special role. The width is determined taking into account the thickness of the base: 20 cm + 2.5 cm \u003d 22.5 cm. Take the guides in the form of rectangles.
  • Then you should screw the guides to the ends of the base using screws.
  • Use a protractor to mark corners. It is enough to put marks at 45 and 90 degrees.
      Draw the lines that should go from these points along the walls of the guides. We use a square for this.
  • Cut along these lines almost to the very bottom to make cuts for a hacksaw. Twist the boards.

Thus, if you correctly cut the corners on the ceiling molding, you can install them without any problems!

And the adjacent walls.

It is very convenient for them to mask the joints on the walls and on the ceiling, especially if they have a different structure and are not made very carefully.

Its presence makes the design of the room more clear and complete.

Often people ask themselves the question: how to competently and accurately decorate a room with a ceiling plinth?

This is especially true for those cases when the owner of the house prefers do-it-yourself repairs.

To do this correctly, it is important to strictly comply with existing recommendations and rules for finishing work. And then the result will please you.

There are no difficulties in fixing the fillet (this is the name of this element): virtually all varieties of products are attached to reliable glue.

They lend themselves well to processing with a special fine-toothed hacksaw. You can also use a reliable metal blade. So how do you trim the ceiling skirting correctly?

Finished Factory Corners

Note that each master has the opportunity not to pore over precise cutting and adjusting angles.

In a hardware store, you can purchase a factory corner element into which prepared skirting edges are easily inserted.

It is enough to measure the required length of the workpiece, and cut it at a right angle.

All defects and blemishes will be hidden by this special element. But it is not always possible to take advantage of such a convenient way, since the standard sizes of such factory corners can significantly differ from the size of the baseboard itself.

Such angles will be distinguished by their disproportion, and it will not look very neat. But if the design of the room and the size of the blanks allow you to use this method, then you should not neglect it.

Those who have to use one of the ways to trim the ceiling skirting board will find the following tips useful.

How to trim the corner of the ceiling plinth with it?

  A miter box is a simple tool that carpenters use. With it, you can trim any workpiece at the right angle.

It is usually a wooden, metal or plastic tray on which special vertical slots are made for cutting at an angle of 45 ° and 90 °.

There are complicated constructions on which, in addition to the above-mentioned corners, there is also an opening for the implementation of a 60-degree cut.

For professional work a special miter box is produced.Its rotary mechanism allows you to fix the cutting blade in relation to the workpiece at any given angle.

Then this same strip is inserted into the miter exactly as it will be located on the ceiling. It must be pressed against the far wall of the device. In this position, the baseboard is held by the left hand.

The hacksaw blade should be in such a position that its angle is 45 degrees, and the handle would be as close as possible to the hand. Trying to avoid pressing the saw, carefully cut the workpiece.

The position of the hacksaw is similar to the previous procedure - its handle comes closer to the hand at an angle of 45 degrees. The baseboard is trimmed.

Then the finished, already trimmed planks are docked - the accuracy of the fit is checked. It is believed that for better orientation, in the manufacture of the internal corner, it is better to cut it from the front of the product. Places of cuts usually still have to be customized with a file.

Outer corner

  Most correctly, in order to comply more precisely with the dimensions, first start marking the inner corner, and only after that go to the outer.

Otherwise, it may happen that the entire length of the plank is not enough.

The plank is applied to the ceiling, size is made outlines. Holding on with his left hand, the ceiling plinth is pressed against the nearest wall, the hacksaw handle comes close to the hand. The workpiece is cut off.

The reciprocal level is pressed against the nearest wall, while it is held by the right hand. The hacksaw blade should be at an angle of 45 °, the handle of the tool comes close to the hand of the master. A piece of the workpiece is cut off, the corner neatly joins.

Such an edge treatment of parts with a wort is good in cases where the angle between the walls is even and straight (90 °).

If its indicators leave much to be desired, then it is worth using a different method.

How to trim a ceiling plinth without a miter box?

Markings on the ceiling

The method with a marking on the ceiling allows you to cut the angle accurately and evenly. It has one drawback - the bar is rather inconvenient to keep on weight during the procedure.

  In all other respects, using this method, you will be able to outline the angle for cutting even more accurately than others.

When the baseboard is applied to the intended installation location, all dimensional deviations and inaccuracies are noticeable and immediately taken into account.

Corner cropping

First you need to take a couple of blanks, then cut them at right angles. Abutting the end of the plank to the perpendicular wall, apply one plank. We draw a line on the ceiling along the contour of the plinth. We remove the first bar, then in the same way, resting the butt on the wall, we apply the reciprocal bar. In the same way, we draw a line along the contour.

The intersection point of two separate lines is the mark at which the workpiece is cut. Each bar is applied to the surface again, on both marks the point of the future cut. From the found point to the other edge of the plinth plank, draw a line. We cut the skirting boards according to the previously made bastings, carefully dock them, and place them in the place of their installation.

This method allows you to more accurately handle the internal corners.

How to make a miter box template with your own hands

  If you do not have a miter box, it is not necessary to buy a tool for one-time use. A template with similar functions can be done independently.

To do this, the desired cutting angles are applied to wood, paper or cardboard.

Then you need to draw a pair of parallel lines, find the center, and then use the protractor to measure the angles of any given value.

This method is especially convenient in that, using it, you can set aside an angle of any size, even more than a straight line.

The technique for processing baseboards using a homemade tool is practically no different from working with the original. The bar is pressed against one of the parallels, after which the hacksaw is installed at the required angle, and cut off.

Remember that before cutting the corners of the workpiece, you must definitely check the angle between the walls! To do this, use a protractor and a corner.

How to trim the ceiling skirting correctly. Important little things

The measurements necessary for trimming the skirting to the ceiling should be done in a special way..
  To determine and mark the inner corner, the length should be measured from the corner itself. To mark the outer corner, it is necessary to take into account that the plinth will protrude into the room to a distance that is equal to its width.

  It is not advisable to fix the plinth planks until their exact location is tried on and the mating skirting is cut off.

Only after perfect convergence in the corner of both reciprocal levels can their installation and fastening begin. If the work is carried out with polyurethane or wooden skirting boards, defects and blemishes can be corrected with a file or a file. To fit the product from
