Pergamine. Rolled roof by means of a glassine What is a glassine

P-250 pergamine is a soft roll roofing, which is brand 250 brand oil-impregnated cardboard made from wood, cellulose and half-cellulose, rag, natural linen and cotton. In composition, cardboard 250 is similar to cardboard of grades 300 or 350, but there are differences in such parameters as density, strength and, accordingly, quality: the higher the brand, the more reliable and durable the cardboard. Despite the fact that glassine P-250 is the most economical material in the product line for steam and waterproofing, its quality is not in doubt. Cardboard is impregnated with petroleum bitumen, which has qualities such as viscosity, ductility, thermal and water resistance. The combination of these properties of bitumen allows the use of glassine for hydro and vapor barrier purposes.

The popularity of P-250 glazine is due to the fact that it is the most lightweight, inexpensive and easy to use vapor barrier and moisture barrier material, as well as the fact that it is easy to transport, store and use.

Areas of use
  P-250 pergamin is used in several areas, including vapor barrier, waterproofing and as a wrapping material for various products.

When used for vapor barrier, P-250 glassine is laid in places where metal, concrete or brick bases come in contact with wooden structures. They are studded with wooden parts of windows, doors, beams, logs, that is, those structures that will subsequently be hidden in brickwork or concreted. In many cases, P-250 glassine is laid in the places where the concrete foundation adjoins the walls of a wooden structure, for example, a log house, a timber house, a change house, a utility unit or a bathhouse. Thanks to the use of glassine, the wooden parts of the structure are reliably protected from condensation and fumes, which lead, if there is no protection, to premature rotting of the wood, damage to it by mold, fungus and other unpleasant consequences.

The obvious fact is that when wet, the most common insulation materials, such as mineral wool, significantly lose their physical properties of the insulation. P-250 pergamine as a vapor and waterproofing protects the thermal insulation from moisture and significantly extends its service life. In this form, P-250 glassine can be used to protect insulation on pitched roofs and under external cladding on facades, when installing ventilated facades, laying underground utilities that require insulation (heating mains, water supply), or laying floor coverings on concrete substrates.

Reasons for popularity
  strength. If you cut off a strip of width 50 millimeters from a sheet of glaze, it will withstand a tensile strength equal to 250 Newtons;
  water resistant. P-250 pergamine remains absolutely waterproof under a pressure of 0.01 atm. within 10 minutes, and during the day, the water absorption of P-250 glassine does not exceed 20%;
  elasticity. With a bend radius of 5 mm at a temperature of 18 ° C. glassine is resistant to cracks, breaks and maintains its integrity;
  resistance to temperature extremes. The softening point for the use of petroleum bitumen, which is an impregnation for P-250 glazine, exceeds 45 ° C. This guarantees the absence of melting and spreading of the material to the doge in hot summer weather, and thanks to its frost resistance in cold weather, P-250 glassine retains all its qualities and does not crack;
  ease of use. When working with a glassine, no special skills are required;
  non toxicity. When heated, glassine does not emit any substances that are dangerous to human health;
  price. P-250 pergamine is one of the most affordable steam and waterproofing materials on the market

The technology of laying P-250 glazed glass is very simple and does not differ from the method of using glazed glass of other brands. The main rules are that the glassine is overlapped 100-150 mm, while the joints are glued with mastic. For better vapor and waterproofing, experts recommend a 2-layer installation.

In the process of building a house or structure, as well as in the case of roof repair, an important step is the roofing material. At the moment, there are a huge number of them, so the optimal choice is quite problematic. First of all, such material should meet the operating conditions, design and loads.

Material Description

Glassine, which acts as a vapor barrier and roofing material, is in great demand. The main material is cardboard (intended for roofing), which is subsequently impregnated with bitumen. Cardboard itself includes about 20-40 layers of flax, cotton, wood or straw fibers, rag masses and other components.

Non-woven materials that make up the cardboard are necessary for its good absorption. Giving the best technical performance to the glassine is carried out if the cardboard is pressurized under a pressure of about 300 g / m2. The material itself has become a modern and improved continuation of roofing felts.

Pergamine in construction

Types and brands of glassine

Pergamine can be either liquid or roll material. In the first case, glassine is a polymer water-displacing composition designed to protect a wooden surface from decay. It is used in the construction of baths, log houses and wooden houses, as well as in the protection of the concrete foundation base from the negative effects of moisture.

The second variety is rolled glassine. Its production is carried out according to GOST and is a cardboard that is impregnated with bitumen.

By the thickness of the cardboard and the type of bitumen, there are such brands of glassine:

  • Brand P250.  Such a glassine has the smallest thickness and at the same time is characterized by high strength and elasticity. When stretching the material, the breaking strength is from 15 kgf. With a pressure of 0.001 MPa, the glassine of this brand will provide protection from water for 10 hours.
  • Brand P300.  The material is strong enough and flexible. Breaking force in case of its stretching - 22 kgf. For about 20 hours, glassine of this brand will protect the surface from moisture.
  • Brand P350.  Breaking strength - more than 27 kgf, and water absorption - up to 20% by weight of the material. About 20 hours there will be no sign of water on the surface of the material at a pressure of 0.001 MPa.

It is worth noting that the higher the brand of glassine, the better and more durable.

Specifications according to GOST

GOST 2697-83 standards act on glassine, which is a lining material. This material is used as an initial layer of the roofing system.

P350 brand pergamine is a type of roll measuring 100, 125 or 150 cm +/- 0.5 cm. The total area will be 20 or 40 m2 and weighing 15 kg and 30 kg, respectively. A slight mass deviation is not a sign of marriage.

Technical requirements and properties:

  1. The ratio of the mass of bitumen and cardboard is from 1.25 per 1 part of cardboard.
  2. Breaking load in the process of stretching from 27 kgf.
  3. The degree of absorption of water (vapor permeability) up to 20%.
  4. With a pressure of 0.001 MPa after 10 minutes, there should not be a sign of water ingress on the reverse side.
  5. Uniform impregnation over the entire surface and thickness of the canvas. When the glassine is cut, it should be black, a brown tint is possible.
  6. The thickness of the matte surface of the glassine without bumps is more than 1 mm.
  7. No cracks, holes or other damage. A maximum of two tears are allowed along the edges from 1 cm to 3 cm long.
  8. The length of the web per roll is at least 3 m.
  9. Exactly cropped ends of the canvas.

Pergamine is a fairly safe material. This is due to the fact that in the process of its production no harmful substances are used, and the production itself does not harm the environment. But at the same time, with an increase in temperature in the environment, a chemical smell will come from the glassine.

Pergamine is a new roofing material available in roll form. It serves as an improved continuation of roofing felts, as it is a cardboard impregnated with bitumen. - this is the retention of moisture and steam from their ingress into thermal insulation materials.

Pergamine or Isospan

Izospan is a vapor and moisture insulating material that protects the structure from the negative effects of moisture both outside and inside the house or building. To make the right choice in favor of glassine or isospan, it is necessary to study their advantages and disadvantages.

Benefits of glassine:

  • High mechanical strength;
  • Low price;
  • Availability;
  • High resistance to water.

  Benefits of Isospan:

  • High strength
  • Environmental Safety;
  • The ability to add fire fighting components;
  • Moisture resistant.

It looks isospan

  The disadvantages of glassine:

  1. Strong smell. It appears with increasing temperature in the environment. Weathers too long;
  2. Short service life (5-7 years);

  Disadvantages of isospan:

  1. Low strength;
  2. In horizontal position passes water.

If you compare these two materials, then it is better to choose isospan for vapor barrier of a living room, and for a garage, attic and other non-residential premises, glassine will be the best option.

Pergamine or ruberoid

Ruberoid is used as a roofing and waterproofing material. It is made by bituminous impregnation of roofing cardboard, like glassine, but with an additional coating of both sides with refractory bitumen and sprinkling with talc or asbestos.

Both roofing material and glassine belong to roll insulation materials. The glassine, due to the lack of additional coating, is several times less resistant to biological effects. In the process of ignition, the roofing material will begin to melt, and the glassine will burn.

Pergamine is often used in front of roofing material as a heat and vapor barrier. And for waterproofing outside - not suitable. Ruberoid, in turn, is able to protect the roof and walls from moisture and the negative effects of the environment.

The process of making glassine

The production of glassine includes a number of stages:

  • Unwinding and gluing of roofing cardboard;
  • Its watering and impregnation with bitumen in a special bath;
  • Additional impregnation with the same composition in the chamber;
  • Cooling of finished products;
  • Winding in rolls.

In order to make glassine, ruberoid aggregates of universal use are used, which are designed for most rolled materials. Finished products must have a certificate of conformity.

Let's talk about stuff like glassine. We will try to describe as much as possible and in detail what kind of material this is, how it can be used, and how it is beneficial to buy the glassine of the brand you need.

Pergamine is a roofing board impregnated with oil bitumen, replacing roofing materials in the field of insulation materials.

The latter was abandoned because tar used in its production has a high degree of carcinogenicity.

The difference between the glassine according to GOST and TU

The most common question about the glassine is "What is the difference between GOST and TU"? We already casually touched upon this topic in the article on certificates, but decided to remind once again. The main difference is in the density of cardboard used in the production of glassine.

For clarity, we have prepared a table.

Glassine brand

Cardboard density

Roll size

Roll weight

Not produced

180-200 g / m 2

150-170 g / m2

The table shows the data on the glassine present in our assortment manufactured by Ryazan KRZ, and on our native antsnabovsky glassine.

I would also like to note that p-250 glassine is not produced according to GOST! But the P-300 glassine according to GOST does not have been produced by the Ryazan plant for several years.

So, having dealt with what is glassine, and how GOST differs from TU, we go further. Let's see why this traditional material is needed in our age of high technology.

Areas of use for glassine

  • lining for the lower layers of the roofing carpet;
  • construction of winter baths;
  • insulation protection indoors and sometimes on the outside from moisture and condensation (dew), to extend the life of the insulating material;
  • isolation from fumes and condensate between wood-based material and reinforced concrete substrates;
  • packaging material for metal products.

The main scope and purpose of glassine is, after all, vapor barrier and condensation protection. For those who have not come across similar terms before, we turn to Wikipedia:

Vapor barrier is a combination of various methods of protecting insulating materials and building structures from the penetration of steam and, as a result, from the loss and absorption of condensate (dew). Unlike waterproofing, vapor barrier prevents the entry of steam rather than liquid.

It turns out that, for example, during the construction of the same bathhouse or country house, glassine is vital - it prolongs the life of the insulation, provides temperature and humidity conditions in the room.

It is important to remember that glassine is not a roofing material, as many (if not all) mistakenly believe. It is just an auxiliary material for roofing.

What kind of glassine to buy

The need for vapor barrier is already clear, now you need to decide which glassine to buy for you.

It all depends on the tasks and goals. Of course, GOST is denser, thicker and seems more thorough. However, in our experience, with the correct vapor barrier, the service life and density do not differ as much as the price varies.

The undoubted advantage of the glassine from Ant-Snab is its price. The cheapest lightweight glassine can be bought from us at a price of less than 200 rubles per roll. And this is the retail price! For wholesalers and regional partners, we provide additional discounts.

How not to be deceived when buying a glassine

If you still decide to buy glassine elsewhere, remember the key points that can be deceived when selling:

    p-250 GOST does not exist in nature;

    p-350 TU glassine cannot cost 50 rubles per roll, GOST - even more so;

    options for winding rolls - a lot, always check if you have sold 9 meters for the price of 15;

    nobody has certificates for the glassine TU - it makes no sense;

    the weight of the glassine rolls is always indicated for reference, but the error is small. If you bought a roll of “GOST P-350 glassine (20 meters),” it can’t weigh 5 kg.

To avoid all these unpleasant moments, doubts and checks - feel free to call our office and safely order our honest 15-meter rolls.

One of the most effective types of roofing materials is glassine. It is a cardboard sheet formed into a roll and impregnated with bitumen. Characteristics of P300 brand glassine, as the most common brand of this material, allow you to use it almost everywhere.

Pergamine belongs to the soft roofing materials and has high performance. GOSTs provide for the production of various grades of glassine, and they differ from each other, first of all, by the type of cardboard used, its thickness and the properties of bitumen. Today, such species are popular as:

  • Roofing glassine P250;
  • Roofing glassine P300;
  • Roofing glassine P350 brand.

The P300 brand can be used not only for the formation of the lower layer of the roofing, but also in the form of packaging material for complex industrial or production equipment and assemblies. Glassine P300 is effective for waterproofing during transportation or storage of various elements, parts, spare parts, as well as arrangement and laying of heating mains.

Advantages and disadvantages of glassine

The main advantages of glassine of various brands should be highlighted ease of styling  and minimal dependence on ambient temperature. This material, thanks to a simple manufacturing process, inexpensive and affordable. Due to the use of tar in the production of glassine, it is possible to use it for insulation of premises, waterproofing baths, etc. Unlike roofing material or roofing felts, glassine, when it is heated, emits a minimum amount of substances harmful to the human body.

There are also disadvantages of glassine, in comparison with other similar roofing materials. Pergamine has high flammability. This greatly affects the fire safety level of the premises where it is placed. Fresh glassine has a pretty pungent odor, which excludes its use in open form for the isolation of residential premises. In addition, the structure of the glassine low strength, it is easily torn and during installation work special attention should be paid to the integrity of the finished coating.

Roofing pergamine brand P 350 specifications

Pergamine brand P300 refers to the fourth group of combustibility  similar materials and 83 class of flammability (GOST 30244 and 30402). According to manufacturing standards P300 base mass  should be approximately 300 g per 1 square meter.

Pergamine, made in accordance with the requirements of standards and in compliance with the prescribed technology, must have tensile load 27 kg / s. The level of water resistance of the P300 brand at a pressure of 0.01 atm is 10 minutes, while the water absorption should not exceed 20%.

Roll dimensions  finished products depend on the used production lines of various manufacturers, however, the most common roll width of Pergamine P300 is 100 cm, and the total material area in the roll is 20 square meters. m

Laying a glassine, like any other waterproofing material, should provide for an overlap of about 10-15 cm, and a construction stapler is used to join the sheets in the overlap area. After the formation of a solid surface, all the lines of the joints are processed with mastic or connected with a special tape.

Pergamine is a vapor barrier that is used in construction to protect the insulation layer from moisture. He successfully replaced such environmentally harmful materials as roofing and only leather containing carcinogenic tar. The production of a vapor barrier is based on the processing of roofing cardboard with low-melting bituminous compositions, due to which the material acquires strength and moisture-repellent properties.

Pergamine: Specifications

Roofing cardboard, from which glassine is made, consists of 40 or more mixtures of various materials: wood, flax, cotton, etc. In the process of impregnation with bitumen and other additives, the cardboard mass is pressed under high pressure.

The resulting material has high strength and durability, it is able to withstand fairly high loads. There are several types of vapor barrier - P250, P300, P350, P400. Marking indicate the density (thickness) of the product. Manufacturers produce glassine  rolls 1,025x1,05 m wide and weighing from 15-30 kg.

Another type of vapor barrier material is liquid glassine, which is a polymer composition. This is a universal tool that can be used for waterproofing concrete and wooden structures.

Pergamine is used as a vapor barrier in building construction. The product is used as a waterproofing substrate in the construction of roofs or floors. So, when installing the roof with the first layer  they put a heater, then a vapor insulator follows, which is closed with a finishing material: metal profile, metal tile or slate.

The product is widely used for the installation of complex structures with unusual shapes. Due to its properties - elasticity, light weight, it can be easily and quickly installed on almost any surface (walls, floors, roofing).

The material is mainly used to protect wooden structures from condensation. As a result, the wood does not deform and the service life of such coatings increases. Successfully apply a vapor barrier in the construction of baths, saunas. For product efficiency  stacked in several layers around the perimeter.

Another area of \u200b\u200bapplication is the protection of the foundation from moisture. The product is used in the installation of foundations of apartment buildings, socles and walls.

When installing a vapor barrier floor  a layer of glassine alternate with hot bitumen, which is stacked with the last layer. This design for a long time guarantees reliable protection against water vapor.

Installation of vapor barrier protection for basements, car garages and hinged facades is being done. The insulator is used in the construction of heating pipelines, where it is mounted using clamps, wire and adhesive tape.

Before installation, the workplace is cleaned of debris. A roll of glassine is rolled out to the base and cut to size.

When laying, the insulator is glued to the baseto ensure vapor barrier tightness. The first row of the insulator is attached to concrete using bitumen mastic. If this is not possible, then it is glued with a self-adhesive tape.

The insulator is fixed to the base of wood with a stapler, the joints must be additionally sealed with double-sided tape.

Next, subsequent rows of glassine are installed, along the edge they make an overlap of 15 cm. The seams are treated with bitumen mastic or double-sided tape. If necessary, the installation of the second layer of glassine is done.

Check coverage regularly. - in case of damage, repair of the vapor barrier is carried out.

Dismantling is not very difficult, since the damaged area can be easily cut with a special cutter or any sharp knife. It is only necessary to disassemble the finish coating and remove the rotten areas of the material. If necessary, replace the frame or screed and reinstall the vapor barrier.

Liquid glassine is applied by brush, roller or spray method. Moreover, the treated surface does not have to be specially prepared, the composition can be applied to a wet or dusty surface.

The material penetrates deep into the pores of concrete or wood and removes moisture thanks to a water-displacing additive. Such impregnation serves as long-term protection.  and waterproofing. After solidification, the liquid glassine resembles soft black rubber.

Benefits

disadvantages

  • The service life reaches 5-7 years, after which the product must be replaced, due to the decrease in vapor barrier properties.
  • High level of fire, as the material has a paper base with bitumen additives.
  • The release of harmful substances at elevated temperatures and the appearance of a pungent odor that persists for a long time.
  • Elasticity decreases at low temperatures (-40 ° C), as a result of which the structure of the product becomes brittle.
  • Under the influence of ultraviolet rays, glassine is gradually destroyed, so it must be periodically updated in building structures.

Despite the fact that glassine has moisture resistant properties, the material can be destroyed due to prolonged exposure to moisture. Therefore, to ensure the waterproof structure and increase the service life, installation of ventilation is necessary.

Now in construction along with a glassine  used two-layer vapor barrier films that do not allow moisture and water vapor. They surpass the properties of glassine, have higher strength and durability.

New generation vapor barrier materials can ensure complete tightness of the structure and a high level of thermal insulation. However, the cost of such waterproofing films is much higher than glassine.

Therefore, when planning construction work, it is necessary to take into account the positive and negative characteristics of the roofing material. In the process of its operation  compulsory fire and sanitary standards are observed.

Pergamine is the most budgetary material for installing a vapor barrier. It can be claimed for the construction of various outbuildings in suburban areas and other facilities.
