Cutting wood grinder. Grinding wood can be dangerous

Bulgarian is used as a universal tool with which you can solve a variety of tasks. Grinders cut everything: metal, concrete, ceramics and so on. Is it possible to grind a tree with a grinder?

Arguments against

This tool was not intended for sawing wood, and its design is not optimized for this task. What does this mean in practical terms?

  • The wood is soft, and the disc of the grinder may stop in it. As a result, the Bulgarian can literally fly out of your hands, and where exactly it will fly - no one will predict. It is possible that directly in you.
  • When working on wood, the disc of the Bulgarian is overheated. As a result, it loses its strength properties, it becomes brittle and brittle. In such conditions, the slightest bias or excessive pressing can lead to the destruction of the disk. A drive that has collapsed at high speeds is about the same as shrapnel.
  • There are no specialized discs for sawing wood for grinders (if only of Chinese sample). The “craftsmen” use non-core drives or try to fit the disc from a circular saw. Due to the high speed of the grinder, both approaches can be regarded as a complete disregard for safety measures with all the ensuing consequences.

But still

You can cut a tree with a grinder, but at your own peril and risk. If this is a one-time operation, then the desire to use the improvised tool is understandable. But even in this case, it is easier and safer to get a normal hacksaw anywhere.

If the need for woodwork often arises or the scale of the task is large, it is advisable to purchase a specialized tool. A great option - jigsaw.

What, generally no options?

The way how to cut a tree with a grinder, and not to risk your own health, is. Only it consists in altering the grinder under the circular saw.

This implies a rigid fastening of the tool on the bed with guides. The material to be processed is guided along the guides to the grinder in the same way as to the circular saw. Similarly, you can make a pendulum saw from the grinder.

In both cases, the use of the saw blade is assumed instead of cutting. Naturally, when working with such a tool, you should use all possible means of protection.

But this method also has some obvious flaws:

  • Technical complexity;
  • The Bulgarian is still not a circular saw - they have different speed and power;
  • Such an approach does not eliminate the risk of disk destruction from overheating;
  • The start button on the grinder, and the material must be fed through the guides on the other side. That is, you need to either hold the start, which is dangerous, or work together.

Conclusion

Theoretically, it is possible to cut a tree with a grinder, but it is strongly not recommended. This is a gross violation of safety engineering, and is fraught with serious injuries. Even the Bulgarian does not have complete versatility, so it is better to use the profile tool.

Why angle grinder (angle grinder) is called grinder? Not Czech, not Hungarian and not even Japanese, but Bulgarian?
  Perhaps because the first foreign power tools, brought to the Soviet Union from Bulgaria. These were Sparky power tools. Unlike drills, jigsaws and perforators, for the angle grinder there was no name in Russian. The tool was very unusual for those times, but it was in demand and deservedly estimated, and it was simply called a grinder in the country of the manufacturer.

In those days, good tools were rare in the USSR. I was told by one person, now he is already old, as in Soviet times in their city the builders from the GDR erected and trimmed a large for those times building of a shop. Under the contract, the German builders were given to help the Soviet builders. This man was among them. He said that all day he suffered from envy, looking at German instruments. He could not even work, he thought only of pliers, keys and screwdrivers.

Not finding the strength to resist the desire to possess them, he began to steal German instruments and took home at least something every evening. He was very ashamed, but he could not help it. And not only he. This went on for two weeks. And then the German builders simply gave them a box with screwdrivers of various calibers. They took the screwdrivers, but after that they somehow began asking the authorities one by one to transfer them to other objects. He says that it was unbearably embarrassing to work with the Germans after this incident.

Where grinders are used

I was a little distracted from what I wanted to write. The fact that it is possible and that can not be cut with a grinder. And what else can you use an angle grinder (angle grinder).

Grinders are used for cutting and processing of hard materials, as well as for grinding and polishing surfaces. For this purpose, special nozzles are used. Few people know that there are crowns for Bulgarians, with which you can cut round holes, for example, in ceramic tiles.

In the decoration and repair of apartments, Bulgarians are most often used for cutting materials. It is also a great tool for sharpening drill bits or other chopping or cutting tools, such as axes, knives and chisels.

How can not use the grinder

The Bulgarian tool is a very narrow specialization. Everyone knows about it. It is even silly to write about how and where this tool should not be used. It is unlikely that you would come to mind, to fight with a grinder on the barricades or to cut her sausage. Perhaps in the distant future, when, due to evolution, the boundaries between people's upper limbs and power tools will disappear, people's brains will swell so much that they will seriously consider one of the auditory openings to go outside. Then ... what then? I do not know ... I feel bad from these thoughts, and I lose the meaning of the story.

Imagine another situation. You pick up an unformed, real Bulgarian, and with evil decisive steps are heading towards something or someone. You just need to rummage in the memory and imagine what you would like to cut off with it. Submitted? Now all the mail from the far corners of your memory is sent to your imagination, and the fingers of your hands reflexively compress an imaginary plastic shape with a spinning disk. Are you sure that the Bulgarian disc at 11000 revolutions per second will cut off anything. You are blinded by the imaginary versatility of the instrument. But it is here that your carelessness can turn into tragedy and sensitively distort your own fingers. Such a case can undermine your reputation as the owner of "direct hands" and faith in the omnipotence of Bulgarians as very cutting, but safe tools for you.

Bulgarian and wood

This is one of the most, most issues of concern to the newly converted owners of Bulgarians. Can I grind firewood?

Suppose we cut a wooden board with a disk for metal. I had to do it in extreme cases when there was no hacksaw at hand. What is going on? The disk has no divorced teeth for metal, which exclude friction between the plane of the disk and the material being cut. The friction of the disk will heat the wood to such an extent that it will become charred and smoked. You can check it yourself. Just do not do it in the apartment, otherwise the fire alarm will work.

The stores are full of discs on wood of different external diameters, but none of them have an internal diameter that fits your Bulgarian. Why do you think? Why do not produce discs on wood for Bulgarians? What is this, "conspiracy" against the Bulgarians? Or are there other reasons?

The inner diameter of the discs on the tree is larger than that of the grinders. It is clear that you will not be able to properly fix such a disk. But people are very creative and find turners who make metal transition rings to them, allowing them to use wood disks with a large diameter for the grinder. Then you can turn on the grinder and cut wood.

Even with the usual "toothless" disc, the grinder can be pulled hard when cut, and your hands will not be able to hold it. You just do not have time to react. And now imagine that you took a big grinder, loaded a disc into it with a tree with pokavitovymi napaykami and resolutely set to work.

The first few millimeters sawn with a bang, chips fly in all directions and enthusiastic spectators clap their hands. But here the teeth of the disk stumble on a hard knot or worse, a carnation. The disc pushes him as a sprinter from a low start and flies, dragging the grinder. The worst option would be if the disk rushes to get acquainted with the material from which your body is made. Even if you immediately remove your finger from the switch, it will rotate for a few more seconds. Imagine the consequences, and you will feel uneasy.

In today's article, I want to talk about the unsuccessful experience with grinders on the tree, which I happened to experience myself when I was still completely new to repairs. It was on one of the apartments when we worked in the construction team.

Before sawing a grinder on a tree, think a hundred times

The landlord decided to create a small building in one of the rooms, namely, to build a vertical closet from floor to ceiling with special building blocks. The goal is simple: in this very closet he planned to put a refrigerator, thereby expanding the space in the small-sized kitchen. By the way, the idea itself turned out so interesting that I even did. The cabinet was supposed to be located in the corner of the room, so the two walls of the room had to serve as its natural walls, and two had to be erected (in general, the “house” or niche for the refrigerator should have turned out).

It is clear that the walls should be erected, starting from the very bottom, that is, from the concrete floor between floors, and not from the parquet that is placed in the room on top of it. It turns out you need:

  1. Parse parquet in the place where the future cupboard will be.
  2. Remove the logs (wooden boards, on which laid parquet).
  3. Sweep up trash (prepare space for future walls).

At first glance, there is nothing unusual.

I enthusiastically set to work. First of all, I drew a zone on the floor that I needed to disassemble. But then I was not quite clear,. Of course, I could take an ax, cut a hole in the middle, and then just take it all out, but the owner asked me to save the parquet. The removed skirting along the walls did not solve the problem, since the parquet floor in some surprising way left the very walls of the room. The result was that not a single floorboard could be grasped from any side. What to do?

Since the apartment was being renovated, the tools were scattered everywhere, and I began to look at them and think about how I could hook up the floorboard. And then my eyes stopped on the Bulgarian. Eureka! And what if I just saw the grinder on the tree. After all, I also sawed concrete and metal! So, I will take a grinder, I will take a disk (no matter what, on concrete, or on metal) and just take a neat line along the line. Thus, the cutting line will be even, thus forming a gap, sufficient to further gently pry the parquet and disassemble it.

So I did. He took the grinder, set the disk and began to cut. I was very pleased with my idea. The disk went on a tree, like clockwork. Smooth gap began to grow as I moved.

But here, literally, in a minute, I discovered that a strong, burning smell had gone! It began to smolder parquet. So you and grinder cutting wood! Removing the working tool, I discovered that smoke was poured from the gap in the floor, and small red embers appeared in the depths. After a moment, I realized the horror of the situation: I was just at the beginning of the path, the gap was only 10 cm, but thanks to it there was a draft, and the air under the parquet began to inflate the embers, and the smoke did not stop.

I threw everything, ran into the bathroom and took water in a mug. Also, I quickly found myself near a gap in the parquet and began to pour water - the effect is zero! Smoke came with the same intensity! In desperation, I scored another mug, then a third - did not help. Well, that stood next to a bucket for the preparation of cement mortar. I took a full bucket of water and began to pour, pour, pour. A minute later, the smoke began to subside. I had a suspicion that lags under the parquet ignited from the sparks, and since the wood was dry, and with a good load, the fire quickly seized. I was terribly lucky that I put out the fire that had just begun in a strange apartment and did not flood the neighbors from below.

After this episode, I understood what it means to cut parquet with a grinder. Never do this!

If you encounter a similar situation, then just read my article, and you will become clear how I should act.

These unobvious curious cases during the renovation of the apartment still include the episode, which I called:. Read, you will not regret - the episode is very close to life.

That's all. Today we learned that working with a grinder on a tree can be very unsafe in some cases.
